After huge success in Bali with the iconic Alchemy, founder Elena Cholovskys opened Mylk in Amsterdam with Caspar Reinders and Esgo Kuiper.

The Mylk belief is that eating well is an art and you should “be who you are: Hungry”…So a hungry friend and I gave it a visit.

The setting

Based in the World Trade Center, next to Amsterdam Zuid station, Mylk couldn’t be easier to get to.

The café shares a large well designed space with two other restaurants. The vibe is cool.

The walls are glass and the seating area has beautiful, wooden communal tables and exotic plants – it’s easy to work on your laptop as you indulge. There are more tables in the cobbled courtyard outside.

Mylk is famous for its tempting display counter, which is packed with a selection of breakfast bowls in the morning and rustic salads later in the day.

The specials are seasonal and change daily, so you never know what will be on the offer. You choose your food at the bar and then pick your seat.

The little things

The staff really care about the look of your food here. So they top it off with micro salad or seeds. Perfect for Instagram!

The green juice test

Mylk is based in an office area and as we arrived after lunch all the  juices were sold out. So, my tip is to go early!  We had two kombucha’s to share and try – apple ginger and coconut. My personal favourite was the apple and ginger.

As we were paying, we noticed a beautiful, and huge, avo toast, which looked so good we ordered one too.

What we ate

We both had the classic bowl, where you pick one grain, three veg and a dip. We had the lentils with leek and raisins as our grain, plus sweet potato, beets and kohlrabi. The oven roasted sweet potato was very soft and tender and quite spicy,  but you could still taste the sweet potato flavour.

The beets were crunchy, but also well baked and spiced. The kohlrabi was a bit plain, but my friend had the roasted parsnip, which was tasty!

To top off, I had some delicious vegan pesto and my friend had a 50/50 mixture of hummus and pesto plus some feta cheese on top.

As we were paying, we noticed a beautiful, and huge, avo toast, which looked so good we ordered one too. It consisted of a large slice of super crunchy bread, slightly toasted, with smashed avo, sweet potato wedges, a huge dollop of hummus, a boiled egg and some sprouts to finish it off! We had never had this avo toast combination before, but it was amazingly good!

What else

Mylk’s menu is 85% plant-based, plus 15% local dairy and fish.

I like the fact, that they make an effort to stay away from labels and dietary restrictions, as they care about freshness and the flavours of plant based food.

What made us glow

All the super pure ingredients which they use. You really taste the freshness of the vegetables and the grains.
